I am not a person who thinks about awards, nor am I person who seeks out awards. Still\u2014I am a writer, and therefore at least a portion of my personality is \u201ccave-dwelling goon desperate for validation.\u201d <\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two crazy things happened this year: my short story, \u201cHe Is The River Monster,\u201d got selected by Aimee Bender (just my favorite writer, no big deal) as a finalist for a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/fracturedlit.com\/\">Fractured Lit<\/a><\/em> contest. I remember the exact moment my dear friend Chloe N. Clark texted me with the news. What a rush!  Like finding a fiver on the ground. Nothing life-changing, but worth a phone picture. <\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/images\/05b3dbe5-d3a7-4947-97f2-1f64d6680d6b_1170x1160.jpeg\" alt=\"sheet announcing finalists for a writing prize\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(\u201cHe Is The River Monster\u201d has since been rejected a bunch and is still unpublished, lit mag editors, lmk if you want a fairy tale about a river monster)<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second thing: my poem, \u201cwarm February watching nature documentaries,\u201d published in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/moistpoetryjournal.com\/\">Moist Poetry Journal<\/a><\/em>, was nominated for a <a href=\"https:\/\/bestofthenetanthology.com\/\">Best Of The Net<\/a> award yesterday. Many thank yous and shoutouts to the homie <a href=\"https:\/\/shipwreckedsailor.substack.com\/p\/friday-links-queer-reading-list-from?utm_source=publication-search\">Han Vanderhart<\/a>, whose book you should read, podcast you should listen to, press you should support, and journal you should read.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/images\/95067c9f-3dc6-4b31-b3f2-9705c8f12ea7_1170x1169.jpeg\" alt=\"sheet announcing Best of the Net nominations from MPJ\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An awards nomination is not the same high as a publication acceptance. My focus remains on the art\u2014I want to be read, I want to be published, and I want the stuff I put out to be <em>good<\/em>, even <em>worthy<\/em>. <\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, validation does feel pretty good. So here\u2019s everything I published this year. <\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><p><a href=\"https:\/\/moistpoetryjournal.com\/2024\/04\/18\/warm-february-watching-nature-documentaries\/\">\u201cwarm February watching nature documentaries\u201d in <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/moistpoetryjournal.com\/2024\/04\/18\/warm-february-watching-nature-documentaries\/\">Moist Poetry Journal<\/a><\/em><\/p><\/li><li><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.therumen.com\/publications\/MqAibZJdByAG2D3oOR8w\">\u201chuman pastoral brick\u201d \u201cmarriage sonnet 3\u201d \u201cKAYAKING IN THE GRAND TETONS\u201d in <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.therumen.com\/publications\/MqAibZJdByAG2D3oOR8w\">The Rumen<\/a><\/em><\/p><\/li><li><p><a href=\"https:\/\/wrongturnlit.substack.com\/p\/the-city-installed-red-light-cameras\">\u201cThe City Installed Red Light Cameras\u201d in <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/wrongturnlit.substack.com\/p\/the-city-installed-red-light-cameras\">Wrong Turn<\/a><\/em><\/p><div><hr\/><\/div><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s it so far\u2014I have another poetry publication coming, had a short story publication fall through, and still have couple albums coming out later.
