Felt like it\u2019d be worth writing a little \u201cwhere are we going, how did we get here.\u201d <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lazyandentitled.org\/?paged=3&amp;cat=168\">Behind With Knife<\/a><\/em> is a very different project from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.storiesfromvine.com\/\">Vine<\/a><\/em>. We started work on <em>Vine<\/em> back in 2015ish, when Brendan and I were younger and the world seemed more open. We thought we would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@lazyandentitledproductions7337\">making short films<\/a> as well as writing stories and <a href=\"https:\/\/bandtheshipwreckedsailor.bandcamp.com\/album\/weight-of-an-anchor\">releasing albums<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/gb\/podcast\/the-lazy-entitled-podcast\/id1794860065\">making a podcast<\/a>, because I guess if you have enough whiskey time stops mattering. We were throwing story pitches around and dreaming a lot. \u201cLet\u2019s rewrite the Bible,\u201d I\u00a0 drunkenly texted one night. We hammered together a novel-in-stories that we\u2019re still proud of. This time around, though? Many decisions I make as a writer result from me thinking \u201cwould I have thought it was cool that R.L. Stine was doing this\u201d or \u201cwould I have thought this was cool while working the 2 a.m. shift in the student union in college.\u201d Blogs, to me, are fun\u2014basically bonus writing, in an ideal world. Maybe that\u2019s quaint. Point is, these fiction projects should be fun. For you and for us.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"stu macher from scream being a funny chaotic hot mess for almost 3 minutes\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gx3ESqpWgmM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So the driving force propelling <em>Behind With Knife<\/em> was to make a pulpy, hopefully page-turning thrill ride. Every Thursday, you get a kill, not that we\u2019d give that away. The calendar blessed us this year, with five weeks in October slotting us a nice five-act structure and a final chapter releasing on Halloween. Not sure how Brendan felt, but I wanna take a paragraph to talk about myself\u2014is this a good practice, since you don\u2019t have your own book out yet? That\u2019s the nagging Calvinist in my brain. The answer is yes. It\u2019s such a good thing, writing a book with a friend. I am shy about collaboration and busy enough to put up the disclaimer \u201cplease do not ask me to collab right now\u201d but I would encourage doing something like this. I feel like my own writing gets better, doing this stuff with Brendan. Plus, it&#8217;s art outside of capitalism. When I was in Maine over the summer, my delightful friend Maya Williams asked my wife, \u201cso how does your creativity get expressed?\u201d Those aren\u2019t the exact words they used, but it was something like that, and I think that\u2019s a great question to ask someone. How does your creativity get expressed? Publishing these novel(la)s on our website, we don\u2019t have to play the submission game, the waiting game, or even much of the promo game. We\u2019re just telling a story. Since 2020, Brendan\u2019s put out <a href=\"https:\/\/bandthenothingness.bandcamp.com\/album\/satan-songs-and-other-joyful-noise\">an album<\/a>, I\u2019ve put out <a href=\"https:\/\/shipwreckedsailor.bandcamp.com\/album\/burgers-or-tacos-3\">an album<\/a>, we\u2019ve put out <a href=\"https:\/\/bandtheshipwreckedsailor.bandcamp.com\/album\/weight-of-an-anchor\">a collab album<\/a>, we\u2019ve put out two books, and we do a twice-monthly podcast. Yeah, our creativity is coming out.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lazyandentitled.org\/?p=162657621\">Here&#8217;s chapter 1<\/a>.
