“He paused and maneuvered his thoughts. It was like watching oil tankers doing three-point turns in the English Channel” – Douglas Adams, ‘So Long And Thanks For All The Fish’

Hey, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed so far, to start the year. My new job is really a lot of fun. Being a food writer rules, and I haven’t even gotten to do one of those “the company’s buying you a bunch of food to taste test” articles yet.

That said, I am busier than I used to be. You, you beautiful and intelligent and thoughtful and charming reader, you don’t deserve half-assed columns. For me, your dogged writer, that means occasionally doing something easy and fun.

“Hey Chris, what’s the difference between ‘half-assed’ and ‘easy and fun?’”

Shut up, is the difference.

I really enjoy History Matters on YouTube. Each video is a question I didn’t think to ask, but desperately need to know the answer to. The animation is very fun. Most importantly, the videos are short, which, this entry should be, too.

Every Frame A Painting is a great channel for poets to watch.

Jason Pargin With Dating Advice

They say to be a good sci-fi writer, they say, you have to be able to anticipate the traffic jam, not the car. Jason Pargin has this gift of sight.

Congrats to Adam Neely for Successfully Pivoting His Channel

Adam used to make 20 minute long music theory explainer videos, most of which are very good. I’ve linked to a bunch before. He recently made a video about why he didn’t want to do that anymore, and how he wanted to be a musician musician, not a YouTube musician. Good on him. Sungazer, his band, is pretty good. More proggy than I usually like, but fascinating songwriting and tight musicianship. I’ve been enjoying their videos and Adam’s playthroughs, especially this one for “Paydushko,” which mesmerizing to watch all them 5/4 notes drift by.
