Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026)
directed by: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett
rated R for bloody violence, gore, and cussin
For fans of…Ready or Not (2019) So I forgot to post last week, but I did watch both of these movies, so here is a two-fer to make up for it. These movies are excellent examples of horror/comedy–tons of jokes, great gore and kills, plus Samara Weaving IS our scream queen here at L&E. If you like stuff like Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) or Happy Death Day (2017) or The Babysitter (2017), I would even say The Menu(2022), then these two movies would be right up your alley. Also, the films have big “kill the rich” vibes, so hell yeah.

ALL HAIL THE QUEEN
My rating: See the Sequel Okay, so it’s a little weird rating, and to be clear, I mean it for Ready or Not 2, but there’s a few more films that I’d like to recommend that could fall under this category, so it felt fair to roll it now. I think this film does a great job of offering what you loved about the first film while avoiding rehashing the exact same film. I should say that there is some fairly intense and terrible violence inflicted on women that feels…harsh in relation to the rest of the violence.
Some thoughts: (SPOILER ALERT: I don’t really know if I’m gonna spoil anything, but I want to free myself up to share specific details without worrying about the hypothetical reader who would be mad to know it.) Man, I love movies and I love having fun at the movies. Not only does this film have a great supporting cast (ex: Elijah Wood is the Devil’s lawyer), but the addition of Kathryn Newton as Samara Weaving’s sister was perfect.
The film picks up right when the first one ends, with Grace talking to the police officer while the house burns behind her. Soon after that we find out that not only had the Le Domas family made a deal with “Le Bail”, but so had five other powerful families and the six families together make up the “High Council”. Due to some details in the contracts those families signed, Grace and her sister, Faith, are now going to be hunted by the families. Sucks, right? There’s a few more rules to the game that provide an interesting change from the first film, but it is mostly the addition of the sister that really elevates it. The two of them have a clear and interesting relationship and the two actresses really bring a lot to the roles. Also, goddamn can Samara Weaving scream. Just get her a cigarette already! Go see this one on the big screen with a big ole popcorn and someone to share it with.
